Avedon, the man of black and white.

New Yorker born in 1923, Richard Avedon starts his career as a photographer in the merchant navy when he was assigned to the autopsy and photo ID. He fell in love with the camera shooting portraits to his fellows; after the war he started to collaborate with the magazine Harper’s Bazaar. He worked in various fields, from reportage to fashion, giving the film the contradictions of american society: his photograph essential but revolutionary encloses the transgression of Andy Warhol mixed with faux amercian bourgeois. He worked for Vogue, Life, my personal hero Versace and became famous for his portraits in black and white. Avedon had the ability to enter the intimate of subjects who withdrew; he could bring out their very nature and in front of his camera, everybody lowered the mask and showed their most private side. I hope that these images kidnap your heart as they did with mine …

with love, Elena
