Grace Kelly, a princess in exhibition

Febbraio 2010,Palazzo Ruspoli, Roma.

February 2010, Palazzo Ruspoli, Rome. I could not miss what would have been an exhibition dedicated to one of the greatest cinema actresses. Even if the expo was opened almost two years ago, I could not resist the temptation to devote a “tardi” post.  At the entrance of the Palace, a series of covers dedicated to Princess Grace cover the walls of the gallery, from “Life” to “Elle“, and from “Vanity Fair” to the more pop “People.” I turn my gaze to my right, and there it was, the dress designed by Edith Head aquamarine, which the princess wore the night of the Oscars 1955 (the year in which they took home the statuette for the legendary performance in “The Girl Country”). Beside the dress, kept in glass display cases, I see a series of baby photos of Grace with her family. Further on, I reached a room where the  dress that the actress wore the day of the meeting with Prince Rainier was stored. It had been designed by her former boyfriend fashion designer Oleg Cassini, in the same room, the legendary wedding dress designed by Helen Rose (costume designer’s latest film starring Grace, “High Society”). On to the next one, where I find portraits of the royal family, private photos and home movies projected on the walls, and then finally I arrived to the room that I had heard so much about, filled with numerous  evening dresses by the most famous designers (Dior, Chanel, Balenciaga …), and worn to the various “Dance of the Rose” and other several parties, there all in a row one after another, filled with “beautiful” the heart the fashion addict like me. Not to mention the Hermes Kelly bags (so named in her honor, after the princess was photographed while she wore one, trying to cover her belly to not reveal her pregnancy of a few months) in various materials, made available to the shows by the royal family. Leaving the palace satisfied and I leave with a little treasure … Don’t get me wrong, I did not sneek out with the crown jewels, I just took a few pictures as a memory that I will now share with you just below.

  1. Solo guardandole queste foto, ti accorgi dell’animo regale…
