The Ascot Ladies

The traditional horse race of Royal Ascot comes to life in 1700 in the well known racecourse of Berkshire. It has become one of the most important worldly-institutional moments of the British summer tradition, and of course one of the most important horse-racing  events in the world.
This kermesse has always fascinated me. When I was a child I enjoyed watching the TV-news that every year showed the parade of the famous Ascot hats. Extremely strict dress-codes make the rules of a style that finds a vent in the exuberant Hats (doesn’t matter if you’re the Queen or a simple bourgeois, that’s the rule). Impossible headgear, hats decorated with feathers, flowers, cakes, candies, ice-creams, buildings and even stuffed animals… the Ascot ladies probably don’t make the rules of fashion, but they show to be really brave…

with love, Elena.
