Givenchy: the genius of style

Today I’m going to tell you about one of the masters of the 20th century, hubert de Givenchy, founder of the namesake maison and creator of the myth of Audrey Hepburn, the muse for whom he designed clothing for masterpieces like: Sabrina, My fair Lady, and Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Givenchy and Audrey, an alliance that became symbol of the charm that changed the course of the history of fashion in the XX century. Born in Beauvais, France, in 1927, he is amazed when he first sees the creations by Chanel and Lanvin at the Parisien Expo in 1937 and, very young, decides to start the couturier career. The Bettina shirt, crafted in honor of Bettina Graziani is the first success of his maison in 1952. His life suddendly changes when he meets Cristobal Balenciaga, friend and mentor, that pushes him to patent his brand and to launch the first Givenchy pret-a-porter collection, a success that will stay with him until his retirement in 1995. His successors are the britishmen John Galliano, Alexander McQueen and Julien MacDonald, before the ascent of Riccardo Tisci as creative director in 2005. Only four months after his nomination Tisci debuts with his first collection, a success that let’s the brand out of the financial downturn it had been in. Romantic, sensual. Dark, Riccardo Tisci brought the maison on an experimental road, hypnotizing the catwalks public with the extreme beauty of Lea T and Maria Carla Boscono.

with love, Elena

  1. Bellissime immagini.

Ottimo post ele!
