The T-shirt (a backbone of the wardrobe).

It’s the basic garment for excellence, a staple of menswear, and is probably one of the most “ancient” one in our wardrobe. In the beginning, it was with long sleeves and it was only allowed to wear to american and english soldiers. Its color was always white, a bit to save on color, a bit because, being more dirty, it forced the soldier to have more  personal care. Only after the Second World War it became a status symbol in the ’50s, after the movie “A Streetcar Named Desire” with Marlon Brando and the various photos of James Dean by wasted youth,  and then, all youth made him the symbol of their rebellion. I love the simple white “Fruit of the Loom,” which was one of the first brands to create it, but also newer ones revisited by various Helmut Lang and Katherine Hamnett are really top
